Teaching
My approach to teaching is predicated on two primary aims: to improve my students’ abilities to think critically and to encourage them to use the insights of philosophy to forge their own successful path in life. Given the challenges that students face today in trying to navigate a world where there is so much misinformation being disseminated, it is crucial that students be given the tools that can help them distinguish fact from fiction. Philosophy, perhaps more than any other field, can provide students with the critical thinking skills they need to succeed in this capacity. In each of my classes, critical thinking plays a central role in the curriculum.
During my career I have taught a wide range of philosophy classes on topics such as ethics, symbolic logic, philosophy of science, social and political philosophy, free will, philosophy of happiness, and epistemology. I have provided sample syllabi for some of my courses below.
